The Work of Byron Katie is the simplest method that I have found for questioning the stressful thoughts that keep us from peace. Whether I am doing my own work or working as a facilitator with someone else, it is always a thorough, kind, loving path to simply getting free.
Most of my life I have believed that I needed things a certain way to make me happy. I believed that I needed material things to make me comfortable, the right kind of food to make me healthy, the right kind of clothes to make me attractive, and people around me who agreed with me to make me feel right. I believed that I needed more of what I liked to keep me satisfied. I believed that my children and partner and siblings and family members and even strangers on the street should treat me a certain way to prove that I was important, intelligent and worthwhile. These beliefs kept me in a state of perpetual dissatisfaction and guaranteed that peace was never NOW.
Since The Work has come into my life I notice that all these needs no longer exist. Most of the time I’m happy whether I have these things or not. I no longer need to be right, and when others disagree with me I am able to really listen to them and willing to hear what they say. I am comfortable regardless of my physical surroundings. It’s easier for me to find the blessing in whatever is happening in THIS moment. My health no longer depends on my diet but on the state of my thinking. As I question my stressful thoughts I begin to naturally make choices that better support my physical body. The clothes I wear are now a way to share my excitement about color and creativity, not an attempt to disguise a body that I am dissatisfied with. I notice that when my children, my partner, my siblings, my coworkers, or even the driver of the car in front of me say or do something that's not in my script, I accept what is. I notice that satisfaction is the natural state of an open mind, and that every moment is an opportunity to be open and available. My self worth is no longer dependent on someone else’s opinion. I mind my own business and trust that others can find their way. I am totally committed to simply getting free. I invite you to do The Work, and I know that you too can find the way.
